Before setting up a tournament the same question always comes up: how many rounds, matchdays or matches will it take? We have added free calculators that answer it in seconds, plus two tools that work without an account: a Swiss tournament calculator that pairs round by round, and a standings generator that works from your results.

Swiss tournament calculator

In the Swiss tournament calculator you paste your players, play round 1 and enter the results. The tool pairs every new round by score, avoids rematches, hands out byes when the number is odd and keeps the standings with Buchholz and Sonneborn-Berger up to date.

Below it you get the rule for how many rounds to play: 16 players need 4 rounds for a single unbeaten player to remain at the end; 30 players need 5. A round robin with those 16 would take 15 matchdays.

Standings generator

If your results live in a spreadsheet or a group chat, the standings generator turns them into a league table. Paste one match per line ("Lions 2-1 Tigers") or the columns straight from the sheet, choose the points for a win, draw and loss, and how ties are broken: head-to-head first, as in LaLiga, or goal difference first, as in the Premier League.

Calculators in the guides

Every format guide now has its own calculator, with a reference table for the most common sizes:

  • League: 10 teams means 9 matchdays and 45 matches in a single round robin, or 18 matchdays and 90 matches home and away.
  • Group stage: 16 teams in groups of 4 means 4 groups and 24 matches; if two go through from each group, the knockout adds 7 more, 31 in total.
  • Padel Americano: 12 players means 11 rounds of 3 matches; with 2 courts, each round is played in two time slots.
  • Double elimination: 16 entrants means 30 matches, or 31 if the losers bracket champion forces a grand final reset.
  • Single elimination: 12 entrants fill a bracket of 16 with 4 first-round byes and play 11 matches.

When you want it to update by itself

The calculators store nothing. When you want the schedule and standings to update with every result and share them with a link, create the competition for free: the same engine behind these numbers runs your league or tournament from start to finish.
