A team that wins all 3 pool matches reaches the bracket as its pool's top seed; one that wins 1 and loses 2 might get eliminated in pool play if the set-difference tiebreaker does not favor it. From the quarterfinals to the final there are 3 rounds of straight knockout: quarterfinals, semifinal and final.

Tips for a pickleball tournament with pools and a bracket

• Match pool size to your available courts. Pools of 3 or 4 usually fit a one-day event better than larger ones.
• Decide in advance how many advance from each pool. The usual rule is the top 2, but announce it before play starts so there is no confusion.
• Fix the scoring format before the first serve. To 11, 15 or 21 points: decide the format and communicate it, since it changes how long each match runs.
• Leave a buffer between stages. You need time between the end of pool play and the start of the bracket to work out qualifiers and set up matchups.
