Points for a win, draw and loss, and the tiebreak criteria, are configurable per competition — they aren't imposed by the chosen format.
Configurable points
pointsWin / pointsDraw / pointsLoss accept decimal values, configurable
per competition. By default they're applied based on the sport:
- Football and team sports with draws: 3 / 1 / 0
- Chess: 1 / 0.5 / 0
- Racket sports (padel, tennis, pickleball...): 1 / 0 / 0 (no draw)
- Rugby: 4 / 2 / 0
For 1v1 sports where there's always a winner (a fighting game, for example), draws can be turned off when creating or editing the competition: draw results get blocked, and a winner is required to save the score.
Configurable tiebreaks
For games with a pure win/loss result (chess, Go) there are two different presets, each aligned with the convention of its federation:
- FIDE preset (chess) — head-to-head → Sonneborn-Berger → Buchholz → number of wins → alphabetical order.
- Go preset — Buchholz → SOS-of-SOS → number of wins, following the European Go Federation / British Go Association specification (deliberately different from the chess ordering).
See the details of the mechanics specific to these two games in Chess and Go.
Games won and fair play
For sports played in sets (padel, tennis, volleyball...), the difference in games won and lost is available as a tiebreak criterion. Fair play (card points) can also be added as a last tiebreak for team sports — all else equal, the least-sanctioned side wins.
